Founded in 1955 by Alan Bubis and his cousin Reynold Bubis as successor to their Republic label. Initially the label was called Calvert, renamed "Champion" the following year. Ted Jarrett had joined as head of A&R and primary songwriter. Most issues released on Champion Records used to be recorded with the labels house band Jimmy Beck & His Orchestra backing the featured artist. When Ted Jarrett moved on to Chicago based Vee Jay Records in 1959 Alan Bubis closed the label.
