record label

A soul and funk label, owned by Detroit songwriter and label owner Ernest Burt.

History[edit | edit source]

Born and raised in Detroit, songwriter and businessman Ernest Burt bought the Correc-Tone Studios in Detroit in 1966, and changed the name to Magic City Studios, from where he ran his Magic City Records. He moved his operations from Detroit to Nashville in 1973, from where he continued to run Burt Records, although the only records released are considered to be made in 1969.

The distribution for Burt was done by Nashboro, with local singer Freddie North acting as a representative at the signing ceremony.

The two releases on the label are both Detroit based performers, Al Johnson, and the Soul Toronadoes. The Al Johnson release was also reissued by Blue Rock, a subsidiary of Mercury Records, with whom Burt had developed a relationship through his Magic City Record label.

Ernest Burt has production and writing credits on both 45s.
