The Headliners
A 1970s folk rock group.
History[edit | edit source]
Started by Larry Perigo after returning from Vegas with the General Assembly, this group continued to display the professionalism of his previous show group, allowing bookings in hotel lounges and other venues, until landing a permanent gig at the "Showboat" club in Goodlettsville. According the A Secret Lie blog site, "It wasn't long before they became the highest paid local band in Nashville."
From Discogs: "they performed their first date on April 23, 1973 as a four piece band. It had immediate popularity in Nashville and was called to do another show with Phil Harris at the Fairmont Hotel in New Orleans this time featuring the Pete Fountain Orchestra. The Headliners also did shows in a Las Vegas lounge."
In 1979 founding member Larry Perigo moved to Hilton Head with a contract with Hyatt Hotels. The band continues there today, recently celebrating 40 years on Hilton Head Island. Their website proclaims: "The Headliners are possibly the most requested band in the Southeast. Performing every week of the year, keeps this five piece horn band fresh and in demand. Whether your preference is Big Band, the Classic 50's and 60's Rock and Roll, Beach Music, Motown, Disco Hits from the 70's to Hits from the 90's, get ready to dance!"
